·
Karwa Chauth Pooja: This is a pooja that is done late in the evening of Karwa Chauth.
During this time the married women worship Goddess Parvati. A group of women
performs the Karwa Chauth pooja together. When the pooja is performed, the
eldest woman in the family narrates the story of Karwa Chauth to the other
married women.

the pooja. The karwa
Chauth thali set can be
decorated as and how one likes. The traditional designs of Alpana or rangoli
are mostly done on the thali by most women.

Procedure: The karwa Chauth thali set gets rotated among all the married
women while they are sitting around the idol of Gaura Mata. A Karva is also
placed at the center as the symbol of Lord Ganesh. Various offerings like a
glass of water, flowers, food grains, fruits are also placed in front of the
idol. A portion of the offerings is given to the eldest woman who narrates the
tale of Karwa Chauth after the pooja has completed.
After the completion of the
pooja, it is time for the women to wait for the moonrise so that they can end
their daylong fast by worshipping the Moon and thereby completing the rest of
the rituals in the presence of their husbands.
It is believed that fasting for the entire
day of Karwa Chauth, following the rituals, and worshipping the Moon at the end
of it will protect the husbands from the evil eye and keep them in good health
and prosperity. It also strengthens and sweetens the marital bond.
